Read the text about generation gap quickly and choose the best title for it then choose the best answer for each question A.Generation Gap Consequences B.How to Solve Generation Gap Conflicts C.Causes of Generation Gap The generation gap refers to the difference in attitudes or behaviour between a younger generation and the older one. In my opinion, different attitudes towards life, different views about certain problems, and a lack of communication can cause a generation gap in most societies. The first factor is that parents and children generally see things from different perspectives. Choosing a career is a good example for this. Many parents try to impose certain careers they favour on their children, based on their own perceptions. However, young people don’t always understand their parents’ points of views. Instead, they prefer to be free to make their own decisions on their future career. Another factor lies in differences in musical tastes, fashion, and political views between young people and their parents. For example, having a pierced nose might be viewed as fashionable by some teens, but for many parents, it is considered to be an act of rebellion against social norms. Some parents may also find their children’s behaviour unacceptable and disrespectful to traditional values. The major factor causing the generation gap is the lack of communication between parents and their children. Parents tend to be dominant and not to trust their children to deal with crises. Also, they keep talking too much about certain problems. That is the reason why young people seldom reveal their feelings to their parents. When facing problems, young people prefer to seek help from their classmates or friends. The above mentioned factors could lead to a generation gap. In order to bridge the gap between the old generation and the younger one, mutual understanding is the vital key. The wisest solution would be for parents and their children to treat each other as friends. 1.How many causes of the generation gap are mentioned? A.2B.3C.4 2.How do young people usually react when their parents impose career choices on them? A.They want to make their own decisions. B.They follow their parents’ advice. C.They think that it is against social norms. 4.What do young people often do when they face problems? A.They share the problems with their parents. B.They ask their classmates or friends for help. C.They ask their parents for help. 5.What would be the best way to narrow the generation gap?

D.Mastering time-management skills has many benefits and there are three steps to develop them. Being independent is being able to take care of yourself, and not having to rely on anyone else. That is what many young people strive for. However, the ability to live independently does not develop naturally: you need a number of life skills to stop relying on your parents and older siblings. Among those skills, time management is probably the most important one. With good time-management skills, you can build your confidence and self-esteem. These skills will also help you to perform your daily tasks, including your responsibilities at school and at home. You can act more independently and responsibly, get better grades at school and have more time for your family and friends. Time-management skills are not difficult to develop. If you have so much to do in a day or a week, you may be at a loss as to how to fit everything in. So decide what is important to you and give it the most of your time or add it to the top of your list. Third, develop routines, because once routines are developed, they take less time to do. XIII. Read the text and do the tasks follow It is a common belief that adults are responsible for ‘big issues’ such as environmental protection and conservation, and youths can do nothing but focus on their studies or have fun. However, the stories of the young people in the Young Voices for the Planet show that even at a young age, people are able to do something for their communities and can really contribute to the care and preservation of the environment. Kids can also do things to make a difference, given the chance. And though their skills and talents may vary, they can use their unique gifts to help to preserve the environment and save the world. One of the children in the stories, Olivia, says: ‘Every one of us has a great gift we can use to help the earth. Everyone, at any age, can do something, whether it is picking up rubbish along the side of the road, filling a bird feeder, or bringing reusable bags to the grocery store. For me, I used my artwork. Find your cause and use your talents. The quality of our world is counting on you.’ It is remarkable that someone as young as Olivia can understand so well the connection between society, the environment, and the problems we are facing today. It has been proved that every small act of kindness we show can make a great impact on the world around us. For some people, environmental protection and conservation means stopping the growth and development of technology and society. But this is a popular belief that is not true. Protecting the environment isn’t about stopping progress. It’s about changing our consumption habits and taking care of the environment. Just by doing simple things, every one of us including the youths can do their share in making this world a better place to live. a. Not only British students, but also students from all over the world have been pursuing UK’s higher education qualifications – bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and doctorates – as they are usually highly appreciated worldwide. In order to prepare for higher education at a university or college, students need to consider academic qualifications such as the A-level or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. The A-level – the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level – is a worldwide secondary school leaving qualification. TOK is a two-year subject which aims to broaden students’ understanding of the interactions among different school subjects. This programme is now available in more than 200 state and independent schools and colleges in the UK. Scientists say that the earlier annual break-up of sea ice caused by climate change is cutting short the hunting season for the bears, which depend on floating banks of ice to reach their prey. Lack of sea ice in spring and summer is forcing the hungry polar bears to spend longer on land. This gives a false impression that their numbers are increasing as they encroach on human settlements to search for food. Female polar bears depend on the spring hunting season in order to build the fat reserves needed to see them through the summer months. But the ice is disappearing, which means that the bears have not had time to build up normal levels of fat. Since female bears become thinner, they are easily affected by disease. Their ability to reproduce and the survival chances of their cubs decline significantly. The sea ice provides polar bears with a hunting ground, from which the bears can reach their prey–wild seals and other marine mammals. Scientists are worried that if the sea ice season continues to get shorter, polar bears will not be able to spend enough time on the ice to hunt and feed themselves. 1.According to scientists, polar ice is melting because of . 2.Polar bears are getting closer to where people live in order to . 3.When female bears cannot build up fat reserves, they are 4.Polar bears need to catch seals and other marine mammals for food. 5.If the sea ice season , polar bears will not have enough time for hunting and feeding themselves.
