- Name: Nguyễn Thị Thùy Linh Lesson plan Grade 6 Unit 9: CITIES OF THE WORLD Lesson 5: Skills 1 I. Aims: - Help Ss read a postcard and talk about a city II. Objectives By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - read for specific and general information in text, including postcards - talk about a city they have just visited III. Teaching aids Course book, pictures, projector, computer. IV. Procedure Stages Activities Work arrangement - Show a video “How does the postcard T- whole class Pair work look like?” - Ask Ss to watch the video and discuss 1. Warm up with their partners to answer the ( 4 mins) questions: +What’s the video about? It’s about “what is the postcard?”
- +How many parts are there in a postcard? A postcard often has two parts: one is the picture of the place where they are and the second one is the space for the writer to write to the receiver. Activity1:(4 mins) -Show a postcard about Stockholm and T- whole class ask Ss: Individual + What is the picture on the postcard of? It’s about Stocksholm. +What do you think is written on this postcard ? Our stay in the city. 2. Pre-reading (4 mins) +What is the purpose of writing and sending postcards while you are on holiday? To tell our family or friends that we are having a good time, but we still miss them and want to send some photos of the place where we are so that they can see how beautiful it is. -Call some Ss answer the questions. Activity 2: Vocabulary ( 7 mins) T- whole class Pair work - Present some vocabulary which is key

Answer a question correctly, you will get 1 heart. Get a lucky, you
- will get 2 hearts. Get a typhoon, you will lose all the hearts.” Questions and answers: 1. What city is Mai in? Mai is in Stockholm. 2. Who is with her? She is there with her family (Mum, Dad, and her brother Phuc). 3. What has the weather been like? The weather has been perfect. It is sunny. 4. Where is Mai staying? Mai is staying in a hotel 5. What has she done so far? She has visited the Royal Palace and had ‘fika’ in a café in the Old Town. 6. What will she do tomorrow? She will cycle to discover the city. 7. What do you think “fika” means? It means a leisure break when one drinks tea/coffee. 8. How is Mai feeling? How do you know? Mai is feeling happy. She used the words such as “fantastic”, “perfect”, “amazing”, “too beautiful for words”.
- Activity 4: Matching (5 mins) Individual - Ask Ss to read the text again and Pair work match the headings with the numbers individually. - Check the answers with their partners Answers: 1.i 2.c 3.h 4.b 5. d 6.g 7.f 8.e 9.a 4. Post- Activity 5: Speaking (10mins) T- whole class reading Individual - Ask Ss to choose one of the cities they (10 mins) Pair work have learnt about in this unit, or choose a city that they like in Vietnam. - Imagine they have just arrived in that city and want to tell others about it. - Have Ss work individually answering the questions in the form of notes. - Ask them to work in pairs and tell each other about the city they choose. (Speak in full sentences now. Then, listen and write down notes about their partner’s city) - Call some Ss to present infront of the class. 5. Homework - Ask Ss to do workbook part D T- whole class (5 mins) - Ask Ss to prepare the next lesson (Skill 2)
