If it is found, the theory goes, couldn't it be switched off? Computer technology, too, is on the act. Once the necessary level of complexity has been reached, couldn't our personalities be simply downloaded onto a hard drive, to live there in the machine for all time? F. There is a warning, however, in every tale and myth of eternal life; that those who lose that fear or knowledge of death cease to be fully human.
