It is both interesting and useful. I can get knowledge of all areas that I need and relax after school. Whenever I have free time, I read books. I like many kinds of book such as novels, comic stories and science books. I really fancy reading science books which my father gave me on my 12th birthday. It helps me know more about the world where I live. In short, reading books not only helps me become smarter but also brings me happiness. UNIT 2: LIFE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE Talk about the advantages of living in the countryside?(kể về những thuận lợi khi sống ở nông thôn) In my opinion, living in the countryside has many advantages that you only find them when you live there. Firstly, village people are more friendly than city folks. Village people build their personal relationship with all people and often take care of each other. You never feel lonely because they often come to see and talk with you. Secondly, village people live much nearer to the nature and breathe in the fresh air, as well as eat fresh foods, vegetables, fruits collected directly from the garden. Finally, there are lots of traditional activities that they can do in the countryside such as fishing, swimming in the river or kite-flying. For these reasons, I prefer living in the countryside. Talk about the disadvantages of living in the countryside? (kể về những bất lợi khi sống ở nông thôn) Beside the advantages of living in the countryside there are many disadvantages of living there. Firstly, Life in the country is slower. People don't need to hurry and have a lot of time. People in the country don't have to work so many hours as they do in the city. On the other hand, they don't earn so much money. Moreover, there aren't such interesting things to do during free time. The unemployment rate is also much higher than in the city. The problem may be also the communication. If you don't have your own car, you may have problem how to commute to work. The same problem concerns the access to the hospitals, schools, police stations and shops, which are usually located far from the village. Last of all, there are some dangers connected with country life such as heavy snowfall or rainfall. UNIT 3 PEOPLES OF VIETNAM & UNIT 4 OUR CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS How to make yellow sticky rice (cách nấu xôi vàng) Sticky rice is a common food of almost Vietnamese. It is an indispensable dish of Vietnamese people. In the full moon days, Tet holidays, weddings, death anniversaries It is very easy to cook sticky rice or yellow sticky rice. The first, you must prepare the following ingredients: sticky rice, turmeric and shredded coconut. The second, you should soak sticky rice in water for about five hours and then you rinse rice and drain it. After that you mix well sticky rice with turmeric extract and wait for 10 minutes. The third, before you cook it you add the rice with coconut and a little salt. You steam the sticky rice in about 30 minutes until it is well-cooked. It will smell very attractive. That is the way to cook yellow sticky rice UNIT 5 FESTIVALS IN VIETNAM Tell about a festival (kể về một lễ hội) Truong Yen Festival is the largest festival in Ninh Binh Vietnam and recognized as a traditional national festival in 2015. The festival takes place annually from 8th to 10th of the third lunar month, in Truong Yen commune, Hoa Lu
  7. district – the capital of Dai Co Viet (ancient Vietnam). The festival was held to commemorate the great victory of King Dinh Tien Hoang and King Le Dai Hanh. Like other traditional festivals, the festival of Hoa Lu consists of two parts: the ceremonies and the entertaining activities. The ceremonies consist of two main solemn rituals: the processions, and sacrificial ceremonies. In which, the water procession is considered to be the most meaningful and important activity, The entertaining activities include many folk games associated with the relics of two kings, such as mop flags battle, dragon dancing, camping, wrestling, sword dancing, cooking competition, singing contest, tug of war, etc. I like this festival because it makes me feel proud of our ancestors and our country. What do you like about the countryside? What don’t you like about the countryside? The first thing I like about the countryside is the relaxed pace of life. I often go there for some peace and quietness. I sleep well when I stay in the countryside. Another thing is the beautiful landscapes as well as peaceful hills and forests. I love admiring them. This makes me feel less stressed. I often take a lot of pictures of rural landscapes. However, you don’t have easy access to shops. When you want to buy something, it takes a lot of time because shops are far away. Besides, there’s almost nothing to do at night. No nightclubs, no bars and no amusement parks. Talk about your cultural group in Vietnam (nói về nhóm dân tộc của bạn ở Việt Nam) The Kinh, also called The Viet people, is the majority ethnic group of Vietnam, comprising about 86% of the population. The Kinh people settle along the whole Vietnam. Vietnamese is the native language of the Kinh people, as well as the first or second language for many ethnic minorities of Vietnam. Rice cultivation is the main economic activity of the Kinh. They also raise cattle and poultry. They often celebrate a lot of festivals during the year. They have the traditional costumes such as Ao Dai and Ao Ba Ba.
