According to the Endangered Species Act, an endangered species is an animal that is likely to face extinction in its natural habitat. Polar bears have been categorized as a "threatened" species. Over the past decades, the number of people coming to live in big cities has been increasing sharply. The city life is always full of attractions, but there are also many drawbacks. This essay will examine both the advantages and disadvantages of the life in big cities. A positive aspect of the urban life is the availability of public services. Bus stations, for example, are mostly within your walking distance. Famous universities, hospitals and entertainment centres are also located in big cities rather than small towns or villages. Another advantage that draws people to this place is the various job opportunities. People of different abilities are likely to find jobs that are suitable for them. An additional positive point is that people working in big cities are generally better paid in comparison with
11. the ones in the countryside doing the same job. On the other hand, the city life may also bring you several nuisances. An apparent disadvantage when you live in a big city is the pollution of all types. Every day, city dwellers are exposed to the noise pollution coming from vehicles haunting from early in the morning till late at night. They also breathe in a lot of toxic air released from the factory chimneys or exhaust pipes. Another negative effect of too many people flocking to big cities is the increase in the social evils that has been recorded over the past few years. On balance, the city life has both positive and negative aspects.
